Working For Someone Else

I cleaned out my locker yesterday

The books hitting the bottom of the box went:

Thud, Thud, Thud

Shared a few laughs, gave a few hugs

Said goodbye to the friends I made

And tossed away my “I love my job” mug

I find sport in facing my fears

Shedding a few tears

While encouraging myself to push past

The uncertainty of yesterday

Tap, Tap, Tap

Can be heard as I adjust my resume

Everyday at that job my self respect depreciated

No matter how much heel I applied to pavement

I was mistreated and humiliated

My supervisor was rude

She never seemed to work

But always had an attitude

And I got tired of her shit

I could never seem to do more than just pay rent

Then I would go to a check advance

When the money’s spent

But not this time…

Tap, Tap, Tap

I’m not going back

I’m not going to make a living off of nickels and dimes

No more relying on someone else’s livelihood

to make mine

For now on…

I’m working for me

Love always, Esha ❤
