Give it to me

Give me the good, the bad, the ugly

I use to accept it all

Like someone with a shopping addiction

Taking a trip to the neighborhood mall

I use to know grief by name

He would greet me

And was always happy I came

Because misery loves company

He stops by my house and sings to me

A melancholy kind of melody

But it’s a sound you won’t forget

The scratching of a chalkboard

Sailing out of open lips

A triggering noise I rarely miss

But my heart…

Doesn’t long for ill-fated companionship anymore

My hands grew tired

Of wiping tears from eyes that remain sore

I can’t dine on people’s opinions of me

I’ll never get full

Because it doesn’t meet nutritional needs

And they’ll never stop talking

It’s the equivalent of stopping the sun

From rising in the east

At some point…

You have to stop feeding the beast

Give it to me

Give me the good, the bad, the ugly

I use to accept it all

Like someone with a shopping addiction

Taking a trip to the neighborhood mall

Till one day I stopped going

Love always, Esha ❤
